Where this leads
An Education That Opens Doors.
Families should be able to choose Ballena knowing their child's education can take them wherever they want to go next. We are pursuing both international accreditation and Costa Rican recognition to create clear pathways to universities and opportunities here and around the world.

Accreditation
The Credentials Behind the Classroom.
Two processes, one purpose: an education that travels with your child, internationally and here in Costa Rica.
Ballena is an official candidate for Middle States Association (MSA) accreditation, with the goal of offering a U.S.-accredited high school diploma. MSA accredits schools across the United States and internationally, and its process gives a school a recognized framework for academic quality and continuous improvement.
At the same time, we are actively pursuing recognition from Costa Rica's Ministry of Public Education (MEP). Together, the two create pathways for students whose future may lead them to universities or opportunities in Costa Rica or abroad.
Beyond the Credentials
More Than a Diploma.
Credentials describe the framework. These are the things we want students to carry with them when they leave.
Strong Academic Foundations
Students build the knowledge, habits, and skills that increasingly demanding coursework asks for, so each year of study prepares them for the next one.
Independence & Ownership
As students move through the school, they take on more responsibility for their own work, projects, choices, and goals, which is exactly what life after Secondary asks of them.
College & Career Advising
Older students get guidance as they explore universities and careers, work through admissions requirements, and put together applications and plans for what follows graduation.
What Graduates Are Prepared For
Ready for What They Choose Next.
There isn't one right path after Ballena.
Some students will head to university in Costa Rica, the United States, Europe, or somewhere else entirely. Others will start a business, take a gap year, or follow a path we haven't thought of yet. Our job is to give them the academic foundation, the independence, and the guidance to make that choice with confidence.
As students move through Secondary, college and career advising helps them explore the possibilities, understand what different destinations require, and build a plan for what comes next.
